What do you think about sync cables for super 8? Are they still available on the second hand market? With wich types of cameras do they work? To what kind of device or motor do they need to be connected? Do they work as clearly as a crystal motor? Thanks and cheers,

Beaulieu has a 60 and 50hz cable for their cameras that you can find. They sell for about 50 dollars. You can also contact The Film Group they make some as well.

    Ciao Francesco!
The german sync company GEBUHR http://www.gebuhr.com/ is providing all kinds of new sync cables. Costs about USD 60 each. Using a tape recorder with free head, you will get perfect sync.

Pedro--What do you mean by a free head? I'm trying to sync an 801 Nizo for sound & remain confused whether to try to go in the direction you suggest or have the cam converted for crystal. Any explanation would be appreciated--

You have two possibilities to record the sync track to the tape. You can use one of the stereo tracks of the tape and record the sound in mono on the other track. In this case, you need no special recorder. The volume of the sync impuls should be as low as possible for not to be transmitted to the sound track, too.
The better way is a so-called free head. It can be the forth head of a four-track magnetic head as used in autoreverse recorder. You use the tape at only one side, record the sound track in stereo and use the forth head to be connected directly to the sync cable. While recording, the sync cable will erase the sync track with DC current and record the new impulses with 1 KHz.
To go this way, you need an autoreverse walkman. YOu disconnect the forth head and connect it to a seperate jack. All tapes you use only at one side.
    Pedro.

    to PCG:
Check out, if the NIZO camera just provides a 1000 Hz sync signal! I know, that some Nizo models did provide both, a flash contact and a internal sync generator, too! If it is so, you can connect the sync output of the Nizo direcly to the free head of the recorder (or to the line in jack)

Brilliant suggestion. The Nizo 801 DOES have the 1000 Hz generator. You've simplified the whole process. I wish I'd thought of it first! Thanks--!
